Margaret
Vanderhye
Ms. Vanderhye brings an
extensive history of public and community
service to her leadership on the NVDCB
board.
Most recently from 2008-2010, Ms.
Vanderhey served in the House of Delegates
representing Virginia's 34th District (McLean,
Great Falls, and parts of Herndon and
Vienna).
During her tenure, Ms. Vanderhye was a
member of the Agriculture, Chesapeake and
Natural Resources Committee, the Science and
Technology Committee and the Joint Study
Commission on Bioscience and Biotechnology and
served as the House representative to the
regional Metropolitan Washington Transportation
Planning Board. Ms. Vanderhye has also
served on the Northern Virginia Transportation
Authority as an appointee of Governors Mark
Warner and Tim Kaine and the National Capital
Planning Commission as an appointee of
Presidential Clinton. From 1992-1996, she served
as Governor L. Douglas Wilder’s appointee to
the Chesapeake Bay Local Assistance Board, the
Commission on Population Growth and Development
and Chair the Citizens’ Advisory Committee for
the Northern Virginia Transportation
Coordinating Council. From 1989-1991 she was
the elected statewide chair of the Virginia
Association of Planning District
Commissions.
Ms.
Vanderhye’s community service includes
participation on a variety of boards and
commissions for local, state, and national
organizations including the Prevent Cancer
Foundation, Our Military Kids, Inc. and the
Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run in
McLean.
Ms. Vanderhye earned a B.A. in political science from Northwestern University and a M.A. in economics and international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. She is also a graduate and a member of the Board of the University of Virginia’s Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership and a graduate of Leadership Fairfax '90.
