We are pleased to announce that Helen Thomas, a Washington DC media legend, has accepted our invitation to speak December 2 at the NVDBC breakfast meeting.

Ms. Thomas, a Hearst newspaper columnist, served for 57 years as a correspondent for United Press International and White House bureau chief.  She has continuously covered the White House since the beginning of the JFK Presidency.

Helen is known for her ‘’no-nonsense’’ reporting style.  Never one to bother with a cell phone or a laptop computer like her colleagues, Helen’s White House technique was simple - tough questions, asked relentlessly. She did not take “no comment” or “off the record” without a fight  -  an approach which recent developments show to be sorely missing in the current press corps.

In addition to being a fine reporter, Ms. Thomas was a ground breaker as the first woman officer of the National Press Club in its 90-year history; the first female officer of the White House Correspondents Association (in existence for more than 50 years) and its first woman President and, in 1975 the first female member of the Gridiron Club, a then 90-year-old institution.

She is also the author of two books which we will have for sale and autographing - Thanks for the Memories Mr. President : Wit and Wisdom from the Front Row at the White House and Front Row at the White House: My Life and Times.

At our December meeting, Ms Thomas will discuss her coverage of our Presidents and what is happening “inside” Washington.  She also looks forward to answering your questions.
