It's September in Virginia which means
the election season is heating up. This
year brings an unprecedented opportunity for
Democratic gains in the United States
Congress. The numbers are
clear:
- Congress as a whole has a 28% approval rating;
- 54% say they favor a Democrat-controlled Congress;
- 19% of former Bush voters are ready to vote Democratic, most are moderate, low-to-mid income females;
- 29% of voters say their voter this fall will be to express opposition to the President.
The NVDBC is proud to welcome four candidates who hope surf the tsunami home to victory. Each of these candidates need your support, we strongly urge members to bring your checkbook so our candidates can get all of the support they need to be competitive.
Second Congressional District
Phil Kellam - www.kellamforcongress.com
Phil Kellam has been the Commissioner of Revenue for the City of Virginia Beach since 1997. His race against Thelma Drake has been cited as one of the Top 20 races in the country by numerous commentators.
Fifth Congressional District
Al Weed - www.alweedforcongress.com
Al Weed is a Vietnam veteran, farmer, and founder of the Virginia Wineries Association. His opponent, Virgil Goode, currently mired in the MZM scandal that swept up Randy Cunningham.
Tenth Congressional District
Judy Feder - www.judyfeder.com
Judy Feder is a thirty-year Northern Virginia resident, professor at Georgetown University, and leading expert on health policy. Her opponent, Frank Wolf, has slowly shifted his district west as his constituents politics change out of his favor. The recent growth and Democratic margins in Loudoun County will make this race interesting.
Eleventh Congressional District
Andy Hurst - www.hurstforcongress.com
NVDBC MEMBER, Andy Hurst, is a corporate litigator taking on Tom Davis. The 11th Congressional District has voted Democratic by wide margins in the last two elections. Tom Davis has come under increasing criticism for his ties to government contractors, receipt of unusually large "gifts" from donors, and selling access to himself through his Wife (State Sen. Jeannemarie Devolites) who gets paid $80,000 per year to make phone calls to government contractors looking for business.
