Secretary Aneesh Chopra is advancing
the Commonwealth's Innovation Agenda to help
restore America's status as the world's most
competitive economy. Last year, at the World
Economic Forum in Davos, America fell from #1
to #6 in the global competitiveness index
behind Singapore and several European
countries. Come hear about the Secretary's
Innovation Agenda that includes:
- Building Human Capital: How can we address critical workforce shortages in our most competitive industries?
- Investing in R&D: What areas might the Commonwealth serve as a national leader in research & development?
- Seeding Innovative Companies: How can we translate that advanced research into jobs?
Did you know the technology sector accounted for nearly a quarter of all new jobs in the Commonwealth last year? However, Virginia ranks amongst the lower states for patent production per capita.
Secretary Chopra will offer unique insights into the current state of our innovation economy strategy and frame alternatives as we prepare for a larger debate on the subject in the Governor's two-year budget next year.
