Twelve months ago, we were all in the
midst of a heated Democratic Primary watching
this political newcomer named Jim Webb find his
feet campaigning in the Democratic Party.
Eight months later, he altered control of the
United States Senate. Five years earlier,
Mark Warner was busy navigating his way to
becoming the first Democratic Governor in eight
years in the Commonwealth. Aside from
beating the odds, what did they both have in
common?
In 1996, Roll Call magazine called Steve Jarding one of the 50 most influential political people in all of Washington, D.C. After received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota he worked on numerous campaigns in the western United States, served as a fellow at Harvard and the University of Oklahoma. He currently serves as Chief of Staff for Senator Tim Johnson.
He has written the well-received 2006 book Foxes in the Henhouse: How Republicans Stole the South & the Heartland and What Democrats Much do to Run Them Out.
He is a leading thinker in winning southern Democratic political strategy and the NVDBC is privileged to have him as a speaker.
